Department of Aquaculture at An Giang University
The mission of the aquaculture department is to teach, research and transfer technologies for breeding and rearing aquatic organisms. We also conduct research on nutritional requirements for aquatic species; diseases on shrimp, fish; culture environment; and aquatic diversity,
Organization: The aquaculture department has 6 lecturers (02 doctors, 04 masters).
Training: The aquaculture department teaches students about seed production techniques and rearing aquatic species of freshwater and brackish water organisms, also about nutrition and feeding and the genetic selection of aquatic species.
Scientific research: The research in the department focuses on areas such as water quality assessment and management, environmental impact assessment from aquaculture activities, the conservation of aquatic resource and biodiversity, population fluctuations among aquatic species and processes for raising natural food for aquaculture Research to develop captive breedingreproduction processes of fish species of economic value have been successful on Pangasius species (P. hypophthalmus, P. bocourti, P. kunyit), marble goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata), helicopter catfish (Wallago attu), tire track eel (Mastacembelus favus) and swamp eel (Monopterus albus). Research on advanced technology application to improve productivity and efficiency of rearing models and studying nutritional requirements and feed formula of important cultured aquatic species is also carried out.
Training: The aquaculture department organizes the required training courses. The training courses we organize include analysis and management of water quality in shrimp and fish ponds, classification of aquatic plants and animals, isolation, algae farming techniques, natural feeding processes, freshwater fish breeding techniques, advanced technology application for sustainable and climate-change resilient aquaculture models in the Mekong Delta, formulation and feed production for important aquaculture species.
Facilities: aquatic feed and nutrition laboratory; genetic laboratory; freshwater aquaculture experimental farm on the campus with modern equipment suitable for research and teaching.
